Japan aims for 20 gold medals at Paris Olympics…nearly 400 athletes to compete

Japan has set a target of 20 gold medals at the Paris Olympics, which kick off in July.

“We are aiming for 20 gold medals,” Mitsugi Ogata, the head of the Japanese team, recently told reporters, adding that “the value of sports cannot be measured by the number of medals, but by the athletes doing their best.”

If Japan wins 20 gold medals at the Games, it will be the second time it has won more than 20 gold medals in a single Olympics, after winning 27 at the 2021 Tokyo Games.

The previous record was 16 at the 2004 Athens Games.

The Japanese Olympic Committee is also targeting an overall medal tally of 55.

Japan won 27 gold, 14 silver, and 17 bronze medals in Tokyo 2021 for a total of 58 medals.

The previous record was 41 in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 (12 gold, 8 silver, 21 bronze).

Japan will send around 400 athletes to the Games. It will be the second-largest Summer Games contingent after 552 athletes at Tokyo 2021.

South Korea is expected to send around 140 athletes to the Paris Games, with a target of five gold medals. 토토사이트 순위
