LG wins its first regular season title in 29 years

After 29 years, LG wins its first regular-season championship.

The LG Twins won their first regular season title in 29 years.

The second-place KT Wiz went 1-3 against the KIA Tigers in Suwon on March 3. The third-place NC Dinos dropped a 7-9 decision to the SSG Landers in Incheon. LG (82 wins, 2 draws, 51 losses), which had no games on the day, clinched the regular season title as KT (74 wins, 3 draws, 59 losses) and NC (70 wins, 2 draws, 61 losses) both lost.

LG easily proceeded to the Korean Series thanks to a consistent offensive, defense, and baserunning, including first place in team batting average, second place in team ERA, and first place in team stolen bases. On April 4, the LG Twins learned the news while riding the bus to Sajik Stadium in Busan, where they would play a two-game series against the Lotte Giants.

This is the first time in 29 years that LG has won a pennant race in a single league since 1994. LG also won the Korean Series in 1990 and 1994 after finishing first in the regular season. It’s been 21 years since they’ve advanced to the Korean Series since 2002.

LG hired Yoon Kyung-yeop to manage the team this season. Yeom worked for LG from 2008-2011 as a scout, head of operations, and defense coach. Since 2013, he has led the Nexen Heroes (now Kiwoom) to four consecutive years of fall baseball.

In 2019 and 2020, he was the head coach of the SK Wyverns (now SSG). However, he only finished second in the regular season and runner-up in the Korean Series. This year, he won his first regular season title as a manager.

Yeom worked to strengthen the bullpen in preparation for Go Woo-seok and Jung Woo-young’s call-ups to the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and Hangzhou Asian Games. He gave Yoo Young-chan, Park Myung-geun, and Baek Seung-hyun plenty of opportunities, and they lived up to his expectations.

LG will now prepare for the grand finale of winning the Korean Series. A gift from former LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo, who passed away in 2018, also had a chance to see the light of day. After toasting and winning a championship with Awamori Shochu, a local specialty, at a camp in Okinawa, Japan, in 1994, 먹튀검증토토사이트 Koo bought the same bottle the following year. But he still hadn’t opened it. A Rolex watch that former chairman Koo promised to give to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1998 is also still waiting for its owner.

“We won the pennant race for the first time in 29 years thanks to the fans who supported us passionately. “It was hard, and there were many twists and turns. However, I would like to thank the players who played their best in every game, centered on captain Oh Ji-hwan, Kim Hyun-soo, Kim Jin-sung, and Lim Chan-kyu.”

“I’m happy that we achieved our first goal. We still have our biggest goal, the Korean Series. From now on, we will make a good training plan and prepare well so that we can smile until the end.”
