The LG Twins have reached the 60-win plateau.
LG won 8-4 at home against the Kiwoom Heroes in the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Wednesday.
With their fourth straight win, LG (60 wins, 2 ties, 35 losses) moved into first place. LG extended its winning streak to five games against Kiwoom, eight games in Jamsil, and five straight at home.
LG starter Choi Won-tae picked up his eighth win of the season (5-0) against hometown team Kiwoom with five innings of six-hit ball, two walks, five strikeouts and two runs.
Foreign-born Austin Dean hit a two-run home run, his 14th of the season, while Shin Min-jae went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Kim Hyun-soo was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, one RBI and one run scored.
With their third straight loss, Kiwoom (42 wins, 3 ties, 61 losses) remained in last place.
Kiwoom starter Ian McKinney took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks in five innings. McKinney, who has lost his last five starts and four straight on the road, suffered his sixth loss of the season (1-0). McKinney raised his ERA to 5.98.
Kiwoom opened the scoring in the first inning when Ronnie Dawson doubled and Song Sung-moon singled.
LG fought back in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 1-1 on a leadoff single by Hong Chang-ki and a double by Kim Hyun-soo.
Kiwoom broke the 1-1 tie in the fourth inning. Lee Ju-hyung singled to left and Lim Byung-wook walked to start the inning, and Kim Tae-jin’s RBI single scored the first run.
However, LG tied the game again in the top of the fourth with a leadoff single by Austin and a double by Oh Ji-hwan. Park Dong-won followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.
LG increased its lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Austin.
With the game in hand, LG loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth after Lee Jae-won’s single and two walks, but Shin Min-jae’s RBI single ended Kiwoom’s chances.
After conceding a run in the seventh, LG gave up a run in the eighth when reliever Jung Woo-young faltered. With the bases loaded, Kim Dong-heon hit a single to center field, but LG center fielder Park Hae-min made a sliding catch to prevent a run from scoring.
LG drove in a run in the eighth with an RBI triple by Shin Min-jae.
