Netherlands to start DeFi one-upmanship
Poland and the Netherlands meet for the first time after both losing key players to injury.
Poland and the Netherlands have named their starting lineups for their European Football Association (UEFA) Euro 2024 Group D opener at the Volkswagen Stadion in Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday (June 16) at 10 p.m. ET.
After qualifying for the knockout stages for the fifth consecutive time, Poland will be looking to return to the tournament. Poland’s best result at the Euros is a quarterfinal appearance in 2016. Last time out, they failed to advance with two draws and one loss.
Poland began qualifying under Fernando Santos, who was fired in September last year after losing three of their first five matches to the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Albania.
Mikai Provierz took over as head coach and secured third place in Group E (11 points) with five points from their remaining three matches.
In the playoff semifinals, Poland thrashed Estonia 5-1 to set up a meeting with Wales in the final. After a penalty shootout, Poland advanced in dramatic fashion, with all kickers converting and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saving Wales’ final kick from Daniel James.
The Netherlands, who are making their 11th Euro appearance, reached the round of 16 at the 2020 tournament before falling 0-2 to the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
The Netherlands, who qualified under Ronald Koeman, won all six of their matches, with the exception of home and away losses to France, to finish second in Group B.
Poland has been particularly weak against the Netherlands. In the last 12 meetings, the Dutch are unbeaten (7 wins, 5 draws). Poland’s last win over the Netherlands was a 2-0 victory in a Euro qualifier in May 1979.
The all-time head-to-head record between the two 카지노 teams is 19 games, with nine wins, seven draws and three losses in favor of the Netherlands.
Poland will line up in a 3-4-3 formation. Jan Bednarek, Bartosz Salamon, and Jakub Kibior will form the back three with Szczesny in goal. Piotr Zielinski and Taras Romanczuk are in the center of the defense, while Przemyslaw Francowski and Nikola Zalebski are the wingers. The flanks were attacked by Kaczper Urbanski, Sebastian Szymanski, and Adam Buksa up front.
Poland were dealt a blow when their leading striker Lewandowski was ruled out of the first leg against the Netherlands with a quadriceps injury. Instead, Poland will rely heavily on Romanczyk and Urbanski, two of the country’s hottest prospects at the moment.
The Netherlands will line up in a 4-3-3 formation. Bart Firbrugge is in goal, while Nathan Ake, Virgil Pandeyk, Stefan Debry and Denzel Dumfries form the defense. Joey Firmino, Tijani Reinders, and Jérédie Scooten are in the midfield. Cody Hakpo and Xavi Simmons on the flanks and Memphis Depay up front will look to score.
The Netherlands have an unfamiliar midfield combination, as the core of their midfield, Frenkie Doullon and Thon Kopmeijners, have been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. However, due to the length of time that Doullon has been sidelined, the current midfielders have played several games together and shouldn’t have any issues with chemistry.
