LG upsets Lotte…Shin Min-jae ends 10th inning in extra innings

The LG Twins have pulled off an upset in baseball.

LG won the final game of a three-game midweek series against the Lotte Giants of the 2024 Shinhan Thall Bank KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Saturday, 9-8 in 10 extra innings.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, Shin Min-jae hit the game-winning sacrifice fly.

LG, which had suffered an 8-9 loss to Lotte the day before in a 4-hour, 55-minute thriller, bounced back to win its 40th game of the season (30-2) and reclaim second place.

Lotte (29 wins, 2 draws, 39 losses) dropped to eighth place after missing out on the sweep.

In the top of the eighth inning, LG’s sixth pitcher, Kim Young-joon, pitched three innings of one-hit ball to earn the win.

LG pounded out 20 hits in the game, with every starter getting a hit.

Lotte starter Aaron Wilkerson couldn’t smile in relief after giving up three runs and two earned runs over six innings, throwing 117 pitches.

Lotte brought in closer Kim Won-joong early with runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth inning with an 8-5 lead, but he allowed the tying run to score in the ninth. Kim Do-gyu took the loss in the bottom of the 10th inning of extra innings.

LG struck first in the third inning. Leadoff hitter Moon Sung-joo doubled to left-center and scored on consecutive ground balls by Kim Hyun-soo and Austin Dean.

LOTTE tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning after back-to-back singles by Ko Seung-min and Son Ho-young put runners on first and second with no outs, but back-to-back groundouts by Victor Reyes and Na Seung-yeop.

In the top of the fifth inning, Lotte took the lead for good. With two outs and runners on first and second, Son Ho-young lifted a six-pitch low 토토사이트 forkball from Kim Dae-hyun for a three-run shot (his sixth of the season) over the left field wall.

Trailing 4-1, LG pulled within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Moon Bo-kyung and Park Dong-won singled to put runners on first and third, and Koo Bon-hyuk drove in a run with a groundout. The runners from first and second scored on a throwing error by Lotte shortstop Park Seung-wook on a ground ball by Park Hae-min.

Lotte came back in the top of the seventh, capitalizing on an LG fielding error.

With runners on first and second, LG first baseman Austin Yoon’s bunt single was misplayed by LG first baseman Austin Yoon, allowing both runners to reach base. With two outs, LG shortstop Koo Bon-hyuk missed a grounder by Son Ho-young and Reyes doubled to center field and Na Seung-yeop grounded out to extend the lead to 8-3.

LG came back with three runs in the eighth inning.

After Park Hae-min doubled and a wild pitch, Shin Min-jae’s infield single scored a run. With runners on second and third, Moon Sung-joo singled to left. With runners on first and second, Austin hit a double to center field that scored Kim Won-joong.

However, after Moon walked, Kim Bum-seok struck out swinging. In the process, LG manager Yeom Kyung-yup was ordered out for protesting.

Despite the missed opportunities and chaotic situation, LG managed to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Ahn Ik-hoon led off the inning with a single to right, and Shin Min-jae followed with a double to left-center. With runners on second and third, Hong Chang-ki grounded out to short. In the next at-bat, Moon Sung-ju singled to right to tie the game at 8-8.

LG had another chance in the bottom of the 10th inning when Moon Bo-kyung led off with a double to right field. After loading the bases with a hit by pitch by Heo Do-hwan and a walk by Kim Joo-sung, Shin Min-jae ended the long game with a sacrifice fly.
