Manchester United Home Stadium, New Construction with 100,000 Seats? Expected to Take 6 Years to Complete, Costing 3.55 Trillion Won

Manchester United (Man U) of the English Premier League (EPL) is pushing to leave behind the ‘Old Trafford’ era and build a new stadium with 100,000 seats.

The British daily Guardian reported on the 29th (local time) that new Manchester United owner Jim Ratcliffe is looking forward to building a new 100,000-seat stadium.

Shareholders, including owner Ratcliffe, are expected to make a final decision on the stadium construction by December this year.

It is expected that it will cost more than 2 billion pounds (about 3.55 trillion won) to build a 100,000-seat stadium.

It takes six years from the moment the first shovel is turned to the completion.

The new stadium will be built next to Manchester United’s home ground, Old Trafford, and the plan is for the club to continue using Old Trafford until the stadium is completed.

It appears that the plan to rebuild or remodel Old Trafford is to build a completely new stadium, as it would mean the ground would be closed 스포츠 during the construction period or matches would have to be played at other stadiums, which would significantly reduce the club’s revenue.

Manchester United’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Colette Roche also visited Real Madrid’s (Spain) home stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, which is nearing completion of its remodeling, and used it as reference material.

Also, on the 28th, Manchester United visited the 70,000-seat (maximum 100,000-seat) SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, which opened in 2020, to play a friendly match against Arsenal (England) and toured the stadium.

Old Trafford, which first opened in 1910 and boasts a 100-year history, has been criticized for its aging facilities, including leaking roofs and sewer pipe backflow.

Ratcliffe, founder of global chemicals group Ineos, became the new owner of Manchester United after receiving approval from the Premier League and the Football Association (FA) in February to acquire a 25% stake in the club.

Owner Ratcliffe, known as a long-time Manchester United fan, presented his goals at his inaugural press conference, including winning the EPL title, the UEFA Champions League (UCL), and refurbishing Old Trafford.
