FC Online’s Kwak Jun-hyuk has shared his thoughts on winning the first medal for e-sports at the Asian Games.
Kwak Jun-hyuk won the bronze medal for FC Online at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games after losing 1-2 to Thailand’s Pathanasak in the loser’s bracket final at the eSports Main Stadium at Beiyuan Ecological Park in Hangzhou, China on July 27 (KST).
Kwak Jun-hyuk said, “This is the first time e-sports has been included in the Asian Games and I am honored to win the first medal. However, I’m even more sorry and disappointed that I didn’t win a gold medal, as I wanted to reward the people who supported me.”
“Looking back, my match against Tadek in the winners bracket is the one I remember the most. I won the first set easily, and I was leading in the second set early on, but I’m very disappointed that I wasn’t able to take control and win it.”
“I’ve been to a lot of tournaments, but none of them have been this big. I felt that there was a lot of investment in the game industry as a whole, even though it was held in China. I think the experiences I’ve had now will make me a better player in the future, and that’s a big gain.”
Kwak Jun-hyuk commented on the appeal of FC Online, saying, “It’s a game based on soccer, which is a popular sport in real life, so people of all ages can easily understand and watch the game. I hope that many people will take advantage of the Asian Games and take an interest in the game.”
He expressed his gratitude for the support of his team. “Because of the support from our fans, the president of our team, KT SPORTS, gave my parents a gift of Korean beef just before the Asian Games. My parents were very touched by the gift, which said, ‘I express my respect and gratitude for raising my son to become a national athlete,'” said Kwak Jun-hyuk.
